Compendium of Curiosities 2 Challenge FAQ

Everyone is welcome!!!

A shiny new challenge from Tim Holtz's A Compendium of Curiosities 2 will post each and every Friday morning at 8 am Mountain Time. The challenge will remain open for submissions until the following Thursday at 8 pm Mountain Time. To convert this to your own time zone, click here: Online Time Zone Conversion

We will work our way through all 34 techniques in the book. However, we will NOT be doing the techniques in the order they appear in the book! We can't be that predictable, right?

I'd love it if everyone is able to submit a piece every single week, but I also know that schedules and budgets and life can sometimes get in the way. If you can't play along with all the challenges, that's totally fine! Just join in whenever you're able. You can dive in anytime!

You really must have your own copy of A Compendium of Curiosities, Volume 2, in order to participate in the challenges. I will not be posting the technique instructions on my blog, and participants must not do so, either. We want to encourage people to buy this awesome book; giving away the instructions wouldn't be fair to Tim! I will have no choice but to un-link any entries that don't follow this rule.

Some of the challenges will be technique-based, others will be product-based. You may use whatever supplies you have on hand for the challenges, but if a technique is centered around a specific product, please use that product. In other words, for a Distress Stain-specific technique, don't use an ink pad.

To link your artwork, you'll need to have it posted online. By far the simplest way is to link from your own blog, but you can also link from many online photo-sharing sites like Photobucket, Flickr, etc. Some of these work better than others, and I'm definitely not an expert on any of them. If you have questions about linking from these sites, please contact them directly.

You are more than welcome to submit your CC2C pieces to any other challenges you wish, as long as you link back to this blog and clearly state that your piece has been submitted to the Tim Holtz Compendium of Curiosities 2 Challenge at Studio L3.

Some of the challenges will be sponsored by online vendors who carry Tim's products, and they'll offer a prize to one randomly-chosen participant! Please make sure you mention the sponsor in your blog post that week. It's very generous of these folks to give cool stuff away, and they deserve the shout outs!

Though not a requirement, I strongly encourage you to create a brand new piece for the challenges, even if it's a technique you've done before. Why miss another opportunity to get spectacularly inky?!

I'm sorry, but once a challenge is closed, I can't link your art to it, so please don't ask because it just makes me feel bad.

Oh, one more thing: HAVE FUN!!!

Well, I'm stymied... I wanna make my own foam stamp but can't figure out how to cut on my OLD Sizzix machine... I load it up with the supplied cutting board but the die with the foam are too thick to pass under, so i improvised with clear stamp mounts. If the die plus foam actually do fit under it, it won't cut thru cuz the foam isn't compressed enuf to deliver a clean cut, BUT I can't make it thicker cuz it won't fit under the pressure plate. I have a Cricut but will it cut 1/4 foam??? Seems way too thick to me. Any suggestions??? Help... I don't want to buy something right now... THX!!

Thank you! I want so to do the challenge, but an illness keeps me from being predictable. I'm glad you will leave the challenge up for awhile.
I appreciate your organizing this, and it motivates me to see what others are doing
